Showcasing DROZD at IJCB 2025 in Osaka - Polish Technology Against Deepfakes

18.09.2025

Between September 8–11, 2025, the IEEE International Joint Conference on Biometrics (IJCB 2025) took place in Osaka, Japan — one of the most significant scientific events dedicated to the latest advancements in biometrics.

The conference provided a platform for knowledge exchange, presentation of research results, and discussions on current challenges related to biometric technologies, security, and artificial intelligence.

NASK PIB was represented by Michał Koźbiał, who presented the DROZD project (Detection and Recognition of Deepfakes). His presentation was part of the special Project Presentation session, as well as the poster session, which attracted the attention of many researchers working in the fields of biometrics and AI-generated or AI-modified content detection.

DROZD is a web-based platform developed at NASK, aimed at detecting and classifying deepfake content, with a particular focus on protecting Polish citizens. The system is designed to minimize the social impact of harmful synthetic content while operating under resource constraints and maintaining a high level of detection accuracy. The project includes two system configurations: one targeted at the general public, focused on content classification, and another for experts, which additionally enables explanation of the system’s decisions. To enhance its effectiveness, DROZD has been optimized for detecting deepfakes targeting individuals with high public influence. Unlike many existing studies that focus primarily on fully computer-generated content, this system concentrates on a particularly common category — lip-sync deepfakes. The modular architecture used in the project ensures flexibility and facilitates integration with external platforms.

Participation in IJCB 2025 provided an opportunity to explore the latest developments in biometrics and exchange knowledge with leading scientists in the field, marking an important step in the further development and promotion of the DROZD project.
