NASK Employees at the “Disinformation in Medicine” Conference
The one-day conference “Disinformation in Medicine” took place on September 19, 2025, at the Medical University of Gdańsk. The event covered a wide range of topics related to disinformation in the field of medicine.

There representatives from NASK participated in the conference, including two analysts from the Cybersecurity Information Protection Division – Dr. Natalia Gruenpeter and MSc Katarzyna Lipka – as well as Dr. Eng. Aleksandra Nabożny, an expert in computer science from the Department of Linguistic Engineering and Text Analysis.
Topics discussed during the event included:
- mechanisms of medical disinformation propagation,
- the most prominent themes associated with disinformation,
- the most commonly used media for spreading false information,
- tools and strategies for detecting misleading content,
- health consequences resulting from the spread of “medical fake news” in Polish society.
Dr. Eng. Aleksandra Nabożny’s presentation focused on research conducted in collaboration with the Medical University of Białystok between 2021 and 2022. The speaker addressed:
- mechanisms of mutual reinforcement of trending topics online (increased interest in certain subjects while others are simultaneously suppressed),
- annotation errors – including those made by medical experts,
- overlooked aspects in disinformation detection due to excessive focus on quantitative research.
Dr. Natalia Gruenpeter delivered a presentation titled “Preprints, Retractions, Predatory Journals… Misrepresentation of Scientific Communication in Health Disinformation.”
MSc Katarzyna Lipka presented a talk entitled “Health Disinformation as a Tool for Profit: Mechanisms, Consequences, Countermeasures.”
After the conference, the speakers participated in an online discussion, during which the foundations for future collaborations and projects began to emerge. This highlights the strong networking value of the event and its potential to further advance research on medical disinformation.
We sincerely thank Dr. Przemysław Waszak and the Medical University of Gdańsk for the invitation and for creating such a valuable space for the exchange of knowledge and experience.
